Starting tomorrow, it’s time for Sundance Film Festival capsule reviews to start pouring out fast & furious. In the meantime, here are a few of the things I’ve thrown together over the past week.
In the roundup of new theatrical releases for Jan. 20, I take a look at the Anna Kendrick psychological drama Alice, Darling; the Sundance 2022 satire When You Finish Saving the World; and the domestic drama The Son, the movie that made me tweet “fuck this movie” when I saw it in December.
With Sundance back in person (if not for me), I did a little how-to guide as a reminder for how things work after two all-virtual years.
I talked to the co-director of the Slamdance Film Festival documentary Downwind about becoming a reluctant activist, and being inspired by the legacy of a 1950s epic filmed in Southern Utah.
